Scooter (and moped) laws vary from state to state. They are updated frequently. You are solely responsible for determining the legality of your scooter in your state. We will not issue any refunds based on claims of unsatisfactory legal status. We have provided links to state DMVs below.
General Rules for purchasing, operating, and registering your Scooter or Moped:
- Always wear a Helmet when operating or riding Scooter or Moped.
- Do not operate or ride a Scooter or Moped after you drink alcohol or take any medication that advises you not to operate a motor vehicle.
- You must be at least 16 years of age to operate a Scooter or Moped on a public road.
- Operators of a Scooter or Moped need to obtain a license or tag. Check with your state for details.
- You must register your Scooter or Moped annually.
- Motorcycle endorsements are not required for motor scooters or mopeds (engines < 50cc) in most states.
- You should check with an insurance agent about the requirements to carry PIP insurance in your state.
